- The market town of Bourne, Lincolnshire, England -

North Street

Photographed in 2006

THERE WERE MANY crumbling buildings in North Street in recent years but all are slowly being refurbished and opening for a new lease of life as retail premises for the town centre.

This is the main street through Bourne and is actually part of the A15 trunk road, carrying through traffic between Peterborough and Lincoln, and so the road is always busy. A bypass is the obvious solution and although this was first mooted in 1926, it is no nearer reality today.

Despite recent additions such as the Burghley Arcade, the street retains its period charm and is the busiest place in Bourne on market days and Saturdays although crossing the road remains a hazard.

An illustrated history of North Street's buildings can be found
in A Portrait of Bourne
