BOURNE
TOWN COUNCIL
I am delighted
to contribute a foreword to this history of Bourne after being given a guided tour of the
CD-ROM that I found quite fascinating. Although not a committed reader of history, I am conscious of the need for our life and times to be accurately recorded,
particularly of the communities in which we live, because it gives us a glimpse of the way things were, a chronicle that can be preserved for future generations. History is not only the narrative of the past but the present is also the history of the future.
Rex Needle has thoroughly and painstakingly researched and recorded the development of Bourne and 60 surrounding villages and his words and pictures also reflect contemporary events to provide a continuous account of life in the area from the earliest times to the present day.
This definitive history has involved a great deal of time and effort by him over the past four years and our thanks and congratulations are due to him on the results which are now available to all in their pursuit of knowledge about this corner of Lincolnshire. Read, learn and enjoy.

Councillor Alan Jones
was Mayor of Bourne when this CD-ROM was originally launched. He is a retired
civil servant who moved to the town in 1987 when his interest in local
affairs began. He was elected to Bourne Town Council in 1991 and served continuously
for the next 12 years, being particularly active on a number of committees during that time and
serving as mayor twice, the first time in 1995-96 and again for
2001-02, but did not seek re-election to the council at the local
elections in May 2003. He has also been a governor of Bourne Grammar School
since 1992. |
