St Peter's Pool pictured during a long dry spell in the late summer of 2002 (above) when the water level dropped to well below normal revealing rubbish
and other debris on the bottom and another spell of dry weather in
the summer of 2005 (below).

The pool dried up completely during the summer of 2011 but Anglian Water denied claims that continual water extraction during the dry spell had been partly to blame and insisted that the cause was "a natural phenomenon".

This photograph was taken in May 2014 when St Peter's Pool was again suffering from the seasonal algae bloom leaving little open water. The thick rafts of weed however were a benefit to a family of moorhens as they scampered across its surface seeking food.
