The prospectus of 1856

THIS Company is formed for the purpose of constructing a short Branch from the Town of Bourn to the Essendine Station of the Great Northern Railway.

The Line has been carefully surveyed and is singularly easy of construction, and can be made with the Engineer's estimate.

The Plans, Sections, and Book of Reference have been deposited in compliance with the standing orders of Parliament, and applications will be made for an Act in the ensuing Session.

By means of this Line, Bourn and the rich Agricultural District of which it is the centre, will be brought into immediate communication with the Great Northern Railway, and, by means of the Trunk Line, with London on the South, and the great Coal-producing and Manufacturing Districts on the North; - whilst the newly-opened Railway from Essendine to Stamford, and the continuous Lines from thence to Leicester and Birmingham, will give direct access to the whole of the Midland Districts.

From these sources it is estimated that (having regard to the comparatively small outlay, arising from facility of construction and the absence of all opposition) sufficient traffic must pass over the proposed branch to return a moderate dividend to the Shareholders upon the capital required: whilst the local Subscribers will, in addition, largely participate in the great advantages to be derived from the facilities which will be afforded for the transit of Passengers, Produce, Coal and other Traffic.

The undertaking is promoted or sanctioned by nearly every Landowner and Occupier on the Line, as well as by the Great Northern Railway Company, who have agreed to work it when made, upon eligible terms to the Shareholders in this Branch.

The Line will pass close to Braceborough Spa, now much resorted to for its curative properties.

Applications for Shares to be made to the Solicitors, in the annexed form, which may be filled up, and signed, and detached, and forwarded to the Solicitors at Bourn, or in London.
