Johnson Brothers, dealers in hardware,
ironmongery and agricultural implements, showing an impressive array
of stock outside their premises in the Market Place on the corner of
South Street and West Street, circa 1920. The shop was previously
owned by Henry Osborn and later by F J Clarke, whose invoice heading
is pictured below. The present owners, Harrison & Dunn,
which was established at Stamford in 1930, took over
the premises in 1945 and so this shop had sold hardware for more than 160 years.

In October 2012, the business moved to more spacious premises in
North Street where more accessible displays were introduced. To
ensure that customers knew where to find them, the owners left a
unique advertising display chained to the railings outside their old
shop with directions on how to get to their new premises. |
