THE COUNCILLORS WHO VOTED TO DEMOLISH THE CHAPEL |
|
THE DECISION to demolish the chapel was taken at a meeting of Bourne Town Council's finance and general purposes committee held at the Town Hall at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 9th January 2007 under the chairmanship of Councillor Mrs Pet Moisey. Ten other councillors were present. The matter was raised as Item 699F FUTURE OF THE CEMETERY CHAPEL and read as follows: Members were in receipt of an Options Appraisal provided by the clerk. Members felt that the public were not overtly bothered whether the building was retained or taken down and recognised that the council had a problem that needed solving. Health and Safety aspects of the building needed to be continued and therefore would accrue a certain amount of cost. The committee looked at the various options and after lengthy discussion the recommendation was: For Option D to be adopted (Remove the chapel, freeing the ground for alternative use. Capital expenditure and possible re-claim gain), and for the Amenities Committee to consider future use of the site in line with requirement of the cemetery. The recommendation was proposed by Councillor Guy Cudmore and seconded by Councillors Mrs Shirley Cliffe and John Smith and agreed by majority vote of 9 in favour and two against. The voting to demolish the chapel was therefore taken by the following councillors: FOR Guy Cudmore AGAINST Don Fisher The decision was subsequently ratified by the full council at its meeting on Tuesday 23rd January 2007. |
