The town centre on market day A RARE OCCURRENCE
For a short spell one morning this week, the town centre was still when it should have been noisy, the streets practically empty when they are normally crowded and the roads devoid of traffic when they are usually queuing nose to tail. It happened around midday on Thursday and instead of shoppers jostling for space on the pavements and vehicles with frustrated drivers queuing at the traffic lights impatiently waiting to continue their journeys, there was a lull in activity. Even the shops seemed deserted. Whether the recession is to blame or perhaps it was just one of those freak occasions is not certain but this was not good for trade, especially on market day.
