Fairground stalls

THE OCTOBER FAIR was in town over the weekend, taking over one of our  most important car parks for several days. But a section of the community thinks that this is a small price to pay for an age old amusement that gives pleasure to many, especially our children who will remember their visit for the rest of their lives.

The discussion in the streets indicates that many wish it to stay in exactly the form it is today and resist suggestions that it should be moved to an out of town location despite the cramped conditions on the Burghley Street car park and an annual inconvenience for people living in the vicinity. Whether it will continue to be held here remains to be seen and in the meantime, here is a glimpse of what we found during our visit on Saturday evening.

NOTE: The fair was here this year from Friday 29th October
until Monday 1st November 2004.
