The Abbey Church in 1809
This is one of the oldest known images of the Abbey Church, a rare engraving published in 1809 by John Moore of Bourne. The original copper engraving showing the west front of the church was finely executed by Bartholomew Howlett from an original drawing by T Phillips. One of the most interesting features is the small wooden bridge in the foreground which passes over the Bourne Eau in what is now Church Walk while the small wooden gate on the right leads to the churchyard.
