Scaffolding went up around the west front of the Abbey Church in September 2011 as emergency repairs got underway on the roof. A maintenance check had revealed that slates were slipping and some of the roof timbers rotting and it was decided to carry out remedial work before the onset of winter. The cost was expected to be around £10,000.
