It looked as though lead thieves were about when men were seen scaling a ladder to the roof of the Abbey Church on Thursday 11th February 2010 but closer investigation revealed three chaps mending a leak in the roof that had been bothering worshippers below when it rained on Sundays. The team of church stalwarts consisting of Jim Jones, Doug Fownes and Dudley Guppy, used the latest technology of a garden hosepipe to detect the hole which was promptly sealed and services may now proceed without further disruption from above.
