There was a bridge over the moat section of the Bourne Eau behind Baldock's Mill in past times and is often featured in old photographs but has long since disappeared.
This picture of the wooden structure already disintegrating is reproduced from a real photograph postcard which was used in October 1920 and showing the river alongside South Street with the gable end of the Red Lion in the distance.

This is one one of many pictures of Bourne taken circa 1950 by Trevor Brodrick who later succeeded to the title of Viscount Midleton. He lived at Frogmore Cottage in North Road and an album of his photographs surfaced several years after his death in 1988.
